For many years furniture manufacture has been a significant part of London’s industrial landscape particularly in the Lee Valley, but in recent times many businesses have been struggling to compete with overseas competition.

The sector has been characterised by poor communication between manufacturers, designers and design manufacturers, with little collaboration and no common approach to the big issues impacting on the sector.

With the sector in poor shape to adopt the culture of innovation that was needed to improve prospects, Made in London and Business Link for London put in place a business-led programme that would break down barriers and improve the competitive position.

Furniture Link was born with a remit to broker relationships between furniture designers and manufacturers and to involve trade associations, institutes, government agencies and business support organisations in creating an environment within which these businesses could succeed.
